Welcome to my blog! My name is Emer and I am mum to Tom, Evie and Maisie who recently turned one. We live in Dublin, Ireland. Maisie was born in January 2021. We had a prenatal diagnosis of Down Syndrome along with a Ventricular Septal Defect(VSD), a hole in the heart, that would require Maisie to have open heart surgery before she turned 6months old. In the year since she was born I’ve contemplated on our journey with her, the wonderful highs and the challenging times, but ultimately the joy she brings all of us. So the reason I’ve started a blog is to document our journey with Maisie. It’s a celebration of her extra chromosome as one thing I’ve learnt since her arrival is that there is so much to celebrate and embrace and we wouldn’t have it any other way. This blog is for anyone who has an interest in Maisie or for parents who have just received a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Just like every child is different so is every parent and my blog is based on our own personal experience as a family. I am a full time mum at the moment but I hope to go back to work on a part time basis(whenever I can squeeze it in!) and being an artist I thought I would add that aspect of my life to the blog as well as some of my other passions including nature and travel along with the highs and lows of being a parent to three young kids.
